Polished Concrete Vs Grind & Seal – What’s The Difference?
It can be hard to spot the difference between polished concrete and sealed concrete because they can look almost identical, but the finish is achieved by very different processes.
A polished concrete floor undergoes a series of grinding, chemical treatments and polishing processes until the floor reaches the desired level of shine – from matte or ‘honed’, to satin or high gloss. The floor has no coating – it’s the concrete itself which shines.
With grind and seal concrete flooring, a clear coating is applied to the surface to create the finish, which can be matte, satin or full gloss. Less labour is involved, making this is a very affordable option.
As a grind and seal floor is stain-resistant, it’s a great choice for those who want the look of exposed aggregate in a home or a commercial environment that‘s prone to spills and stains.

You may be on a tight budget, but that doesn’t mean you have to accept your drab old slab! Signature Flooring can grind your concrete floor surfaces, new or old, to a finish that looks amazing.
Our process is to grind back the first few millimetres of concrete to expose the aggregate, smooth out scratches using finer diamond sanders, and then apply a clear sealant system. The result is an attractive and long-lasting ‘faux polished’ look.
We use high-quality, UV stable, chemical-resistant polyurethane sealers to help protect against grease, oil, organic and chemical spills. This allows the floor to be easily cleaned of stains that would permanently damage other flooring types. Anti-slip compounds can also be added to the sealant where needed for additional protection.
Grind & Seal Concrete Flooring Applications
We recommend grind and seal concrete flooring over traditional polished concrete floors for large, high-traffic indoor spaces where recoating is impractical, such as warehouses and shopping centres. It’s also well-suited to spaces like cafes where regular extensive cleaning is required.
